“Seasons of spirit. Controlled chaos, rites of transformation. Seven senses for the seven seasons, experiencing pleasure and seasoning the mouth for a hopeless optimism, and embracing with inner sunshine and care.”
Imagine dividing the year into seasons, not according to weather or time, but seasons of the sensations, of the body and the spirit. Eating together is one of the most ancient celebrations of community; a ritual linked to nutrition, harvest, gratitude. Choreographed by Irene Fernández Arcas, Nadav Naim Kirsh, Ayscha Zarina Omar and Alina Lehle, the performative event Seasons of spirit *Sensorial rite experience* proposed an understanding of a shared dinner as a social sculpture. As the annual event for supporters of the non-profit association (Kunstverein), members of soft power were invited to become part of this collective performance by means of experiencing the idea of a dinner as bodies in sensations and interaction with the proposed seven senses and seasons.
For the project, a seven course meal was created and choreographed within a temporary tent structure, consisting of drawings on fabric by Irene Fernández Arcas, alongside objects and sculptures by invited artist Dora Durkesac. An accompanying publication acted as a menu, a prompt, and an incentive to collectively dissect the experience of food as togetherness, as a ritual, a feast.
