super soft summer residency 2024

Dylan Spencer-Davidson

Dylan Spencer-Davidson’s practice spans performance, workshops, video, music and writing and orbits around questions of how to be together. Challenging normative, violent forms of relation, his works hold space for collective emotional processing, proposing alternative forms of neuroqueer communication and collaboration that are rooted in listening, consent, embodiment, difference, and vulnerability. As OPEN-BODY, Dylan collaborates with Joy Mariama Smith to research questions of relational choreography and the conditions of performance-making. As part of a 10-month fellowship with the School of Commons in Zurich, Dylan is leading a study group together with psychoanalyst Iggy Robinson. Titled Business as Usual the group looks into the unconscious and unspoken of collective practice – with a particular interest in how, against a backdrop of increasing political urgency, group dynamics may maintain the status quo and hinder political action.

During the super soft summer residency , Dylan will be expanding on this collaborative research as well as developing choreographic material, working on sound scores, recording video – both individually and with a number of different collaborators.

The super soft residency is a format, in which soft power regularly welcomes artists, musicians or performers to take over our space for a period of time to pursue, rehearse, explore their current research, projects and ideas. For the first summer iteration of the residency programme, an Open Call was published in June 2024, addressing artists and art collectives of all disciplines based in Berlin who are facing space constraints.
