About soft power
soft power is a collectively run non-profit art association and venue for artistic projects. As a conceptual framework soft power appropriates a political term that describes and uses the influence which ”soft” assets such as culture and art can have on policies and economic spheres. The ongoing programme is guided by the question how this notion can be productively subverted, challenged and reclaimed from an artistic perspective.
Neben Ausstellungen und anderen öffentlichen Formaten, die seit 2020 in unseren Räumlichkeiten in einem ehemaligen Fabrikgebäude in Berlin-Tempelhof stattfinden, fungiert soft power auch als Ort für wechselnde Residencies und als Arbeitsraum, der in fortlaufender Auseinandersetzung mit strukturellen Gegebenheiten und politischen Bedingungen kollektiver Praxis kuratorische, künstlerische, sozialwissenschaftliche und gestalterische Ansätze vereint. soft power was founded by Linnéa Bake, Eva Herrmann, Melissa Lücking and Donna Volta Newmen The growing number of members of the art association (Kunstverein) supports our work and is encouraged to get involved in the programming.

Positioning
As a growing organisation, we are continuously working on establishing, developing and implementing our institutional position and principles. As a non-commercial and independent space for artistic projects, it is of great concern to us to make the internal structures and working methods of soft power increasingly transparent, in order to draw attention to oftentimes precarious working conditions in the cultural sector. It is our goal not only to address structural deficiencies in the field, but also to contribute to overcoming them as an organisation, for example through our institutional stance on remuneration. In this and all other contexts, we oppose any form of discrimination, be it structural or individual. As an art association, exhibition and working space, we want to create an environment in which respectful, equal and enriching interaction can take place.

Space
In October 2020, soft power moved into the third floor of the former Sarotti factory in Berlin-Tempelhof alongside more than 40 other Berlin-based cultural workers and artists. Supported by the work space program (partial subsidization of the space rental) of the cultural administration of the state of Berlin (Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe / Kultur Räume Berlin), a new place of artistic production is being created here, which we wish to contribute to shaping as an art association, exhibition and working space. In addition to exhibition formats curated by soft power and on-site artist residencies, soft power has increasingly established itself as a platform that invites external curators and project initiatives to carry out artistic projects within the framework of our program and on our premises.
